Hong Kong, 2 March 2020 — HGC Global Communications Limited (HGC), a fully-fledged fixed-line operator and ICT service provider with extensive local and international network coverage, services and infrastructure, announced today the launch of its Learning@home Programme in collaboration with the Association of I.T. Leaders in Education (AiTLE). The programme will provide IT and digital support to primary and secondary schools by giving out 600 sets of refurbished secondhand computers to over 30 local schools and students in need. As the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak continues, it has been announced that the suspension of classes at all schools will be extended until at least 20 April. As such, schools must react accordingly, and IT in education will become an important part of home learning. The Learning@home Programme will encourage continuous education and minimise the effects of COVID-19 on curriculum progress.
Each computer set comprises a base unit, a monitor, a mouse and a keyboard. HGC refurbished the computers and sought out schools in need, with help from AiTLE, then arranged delivery according to the needs of schools and students in the hope of easing their burdens.
The first batch of computer sets are expected to reach C.C.C. Mongkok Church Kai Oi School, C.C.C. Wanchai Church Kei to Primary School (Kowloon City), China Holiness College, Salesians of Don Bosco Ng Siu Mui Secondary School and Yuen Long Catholic Secondary School in March.
