HGC launches new Point-of-Presence (PoP) in Marseille

(Hong Kong, 22 January 2019) HGC Global Communications Limited (HGC), a fully-fledged fixed-line operator and ICT service provider with extensive local and international network coverage and infrastructure, today (22 Jan) announced a new point-of-presence (PoP) in Marseille, France. This newest addition in Marseille is the latest example of HGC’s strategy to continuously extend international network coverage worldwide, aligning HGC’s global digitalisation strategy.

New PoP in a major strategic hub in Europe

Marseille is one of the biggest data gateways in Europe and one of the major interconnection points for international submarine cables linking Europe and Middle East, Africa and Asia. The new PoP is located at a carrier-neutral data centre in Marseille, a major strategic hub serving a community of hundreds of carriers and service providers. HGC can interconnect with the France Internet Exchange for peering, establishing routes between different parties under the telecom ecosystem.

Enhanced capability to provide comprehensive network services

The new HGC PoP will facilitate data and voice connectivity and the provision of a full and flexible range of reliable network services such as IPLC, GEPL, MPLS and internet service for international carriers, OTT service providers and enterprise customers, enabling them to interconnect with France and the rest of the world. By further extending the international backbone through the new Marseille PoP, HGC can now provide a much shorter and more direct connection path to other countries and within the region, offering lower latency and higher stability. It also provides enhanced coverage, with service options available for satisfying different market demands and needs.

Global network transformation

Transforming the global network with a software-defined network (SDN) platform covering PoPs in Asia, Europe and America is HGC’s continuous key focus and strategy. It allows the quick introduction of new and innovative customised solutions, providing improved agility to cater for business needs of customers, including carriers, enterprises and data centre service providers. The newly-established API Hub enables the efficient integration of APIs in multiple systems and facilitates access to resources in a fast and secure manner.

Ravindran Mahalingam, HGC’s Senior Vice President of International Business said: “With digitalisation trend driving the telecom business, the demand for flexible, scalable and responsive networking environment becomes more significant and crucial. Apart from network expansion, the establishment of an interoperable, intelligent SDN, with newly established API Hub is a critical part of our digitalisation strategy. Enabling orchestrated dynamic services over more automated and interconnected networks is key to telecom industry digitalisation.”

Cliff Tam, HGC’s Vice President, Global Data Strategy of International Business said: “The new PoP in Marseille further extends HGC international network footprint, reinforces HGC’s presence in Europe and provides an additional gateway to Asia. Our end customers will enjoy more comprehensive, end-to-end network services. As an infrastructure-based fixed-lined operator, HGC is dedicated to continuously investing in network diversity and helping drive the pace of global digitalisation.”
